Dr. Murray Watson will teach this seven-week course that aims to transform how you think about the Old Testament, and how you approach Old Testament preaching, by combining solid biblical scholarship with practical homiletical insights. It is specifically designed for those who want to feel more confident preaching from Hebrew Scripture texts in the Revised Common Lectionary [RCL]. Rather than getting lost in academic complexities, you’ll journey through the rich landscape of Old Testament literature—from creation stories and covenant narratives to wisdom poetry and prophetic challenges—while learning to craft sermons that honor both ancient contexts and contemporary congregations.

Each week will blend theological exploration with hands-on engagement with the text, equipping participants with both deepened understanding and practical tools for making these ancient texts come alive for modern listeners. Whether you’re nervous about preaching from difficult Old Testament passages or simply want to discover the preaching gold hidden in Hebrew Scripture, this course will help you to help your community fall in love with the full breadth of God’s story.

7 consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning November 6, 2025.

This course will be taught online via Zoom, and recordings of each week’s class will be made available to students registered in the course.

Students from the Dioceses of Huron, Ontario and Fredericton can sign up for these courses, free of cost, as either a for-credit or auditing student
