As more and more electric vehicles become available every day, many people are interested in clean transportation, yet there’s still a lot of confusion and misunderstanding out there. To help us sort out fact from fiction the Diocese of Ontario Green Group will host a Webinar on the topic:

“Electric Cars: Dispelling Myths – is one right for you?”

Our featured speaker will be St. Lawrence College’s Steve Lapp. Steve will unpack the most common current myths about electric cars. Some myths are believed because of lack of information, while others are based on outdated information, and yet others never were true to begin with. Steve will help us sort out the difference. Attention will be paid to the questions surrounding the total environmental impact of electric vehicles versus gas cars. Our goal is to give you enough information to make the decision that an electric car is right for you. We will also help you decide which one is most appropriate for your specific needs. It need not be too expensive for your wallet.

About the speaker: Steve has over 35 years working with low carbon energy technologies as an engineer and college professor. His experience covers fuel cells, transit vehicles, photovoltaic systems, electric vehicles and building energy efficiency, he has designed and implemented projects in multiple countries and taught for 15 years at St. Lawrence College in their Energy Systems Program.

Electric vehicles (EVs) for personal transportation are a critical component in the transition to a carbon neutral world by 2050. If you’ve been sitting on the fence about whether to get an EV, now is the time to get off the fence! Switching to an EV in Ontario is one of the most significant changes you can make to lower your lifestyle greenhouse gas emissions by many tonnes. Steve will address the concerns and myths surrounding EVs in the areas of environmental impact, mining, charging availability, the Ontario electricity grid, the viability of other low carbon fuel paths and EV life cycle ownership costs. Steve has EV and fuel cell experience going back to 1989 and has driven an EV since 2014.
