Dear Friends,

Service of Collation

You are invited to attend a Service of Collation for Archdeacons Rev. Canon Blair Peever, Rev. Canon Nancy Beale, Rev. Dr. Bram Pearce and the Ven. David Selzer on Wednesday December 6, 2023, at 7 pm. The service will be held as a part of the twice monthly Evensong at St. George’s Cathedral.

“Collation” is an old word that most people associate with the shuffling of papers to make a booklet. This is also true in a way of the older use of the word in Church. Collation means to “set things in order” and sometimes referred to the light meal that would follow a social occasion in a Church. For the purposes of the Church in the Diocese of Ontario, a Collation is a small portion of a larger service (often Evensong or a Eucharist) in which we “set into proper order” some of the officers of the Church – in this case, canons and archdeacons.

Rev. Canon Blair Peever serves as the incumbent of the Parishes of Lakes & Locks and Sharbot Lake/Central Frontenac, Rev. Canon Nancy Beale is the incumbent of the Parish of St. Andrew’s, Wellington and St. Philip’s, Milford along with her duties as the warden of the Lay Readers Association. Rev. Dr. Bram Pearce is the incumbent of St. Mary Magdalene, Picton and Archdeacon David Selzer, while being collated as an archdeacon in the Diocese of Ontario as a courtesy, will remain an archdeacon of the Diocese of Ottawa.

Please note the service will commence at 7 pm. Clergy are invited to attend and vest in choir dress (cassock, surplice, scarf & hood). All lay readers are invited to attend and robe. Parishioners of our diocese are invited to attend as well.

Please hold Blair, Nancy, Bram and David in your prayers as they continue to serve in their ministries here within the Diocese of Ontario.

Celebration of New Ministry

A celebration of New Ministry liturgy will be held for the Reverend Lynn Mitchell on Sunday November 19 at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Brockville.

I will be celebrant for the liturgy and the preacher will be the Very Rev. Doug Michael. Clergy of the diocese are invited and expected to attend and robe in celebration of Lynn’s new ministry. The liturgical colour will be green. All lay readers of our diocese are also invited to attend and robe. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service at the back of the church.

Please hold Lynn in your prayers as she begins her service as incumbent of St. Paul’s in Brockville.

Service of Ordination

I am pleased to announce that, God willing, I intend to ordain the Rev. Ryan Deyo to the Sacred Order of Priests on the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, Thursday November 30, at 7 pm at St. George’s Cathedral.

Ryan is currently the assistant curate to the Ven. Bill Clarke in the Parish of St. Peter’s in Collins Bay. Clergy are invited and expected to attend and robe with the liturgical colour being red. Lay readers of the Diocese of Ontario are invited to attend and robe. All lay members of our diocese are also invited to attend.

Please hold Ryan and the Parish of St. Peter’s in your prayers as he continues to serve our diocese and proclaim the mission of Jesus Christ.

Yours faithfully,

Bishop William G. Cliff
XIII Bishop of Ontario
