Social Justice (1)

The Social Action/Social Justice ministry supports and encourages the Christian call to social justice. By providing information and education on issues of social and ecological concern at the local, national and international levels, the committee raises awareness, and encourages individual and parish involvement. The Social Justice Committee also works in collaboration with the following satellite committees: Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), Diocese of Ontario Refugee Support (DOORS), and the Green Group.

The diocesan Social Justice Committee was formed in February 2007 as a working, steering, and advisory committee as required. Membership is open to interested clergy and laity within the Diocese of Ontario. Terms of office are three years in length.

Mandate:

Compelled by God's compassion and love for us, we call upon Anglicans in the Diocese of Ontario to care for the earth and its people in light of the Christian call to social justice.

Mission Statement:

To educate, encourage and inspire Anglicans in the Diocese of Ontario to be involved in issues of social and ecological justice.

PWRDF Committe Reactivated!

Written by Rev. Steve Timpson

The Diocese of Ontario PWRDF Committee has reactivated itself.

Bill Clarke continues as the chair and Eve d’Aeth continues as secretary. Members of the committee are: Margaret Zebarth, Thelma Goodfellow, Geoff Howson, and Wayne Varley. Tim Grew volunteered to be a facilitator for the group. We are working on getting our two days of observation for the Primate’s fund going again.

Our action day will be on Sunday, 2 October. Mark it in your diaries and start planning something in your parish. We are also working on getting some better communication going. We are attempting to use Facebook to our advantage. Anyone in the Diocese who would like to be connected to our Facebook group for PWRDF – Ontario just contact Tim Grew and ask to be his friend or send him an email at and let him know you would like to be part of things. He will get you connected.

We are meeting soon to plan for the fall action day – 2 October – and will keep you informed. Any questions can be directed to Tim Grew at the above email address or by talking to any of the committee members. Thanks.
